Thread Carpal Tunnel Release: cost and insurance

Most major insurance plans are accepted, along with Medicare and workers' compensation. Thread Carpal Tunnel Release is billed as a carpal tunnel release, the same code as open or endoscopic surgery, so your plan covers it the way it covers carpal tunnel surgery.

What you pay out of pocket depends on your plan, your deductible and whether you have met it. Rather than guess, call (510) 297-0550. Our office verifies your benefits before you book, so you know where you stand before the visit.

Insurance we accept

  • Most major insurance plans, PPO and HMO.
  • Medicare. Dr. Dashe is a Medicare participating provider.
  • Workers' compensation. The practice treats work injuries and is in many workers' compensation networks (MPNs), including Sedgwick, Travelers, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford, CorVel, State Fund, and the Alameda County and Contra Costa County workers' compensation programs.
  • HMO plans need a referral or authorization from your primary care doctor before the visit.
  • Medi-Cal is accepted as secondary insurance only. We are not able to take new patients whose primary insurance is Medi-Cal.

Not sure whether your plan is on the list? Call and we will check before you book.

What affects what you pay

Your deductible. If you have not met it for the year, more of the cost is yours until you do. Many patients time carpal tunnel release for after the deductible is met.

Your copay or coinsurance. Set by your plan. Copays are due at the visit: cash, check, Visa or Mastercard.

Where the procedure is done. Thread Carpal Tunnel Release is performed in Dr. Dashe's office under local anesthetic. There is no operating room and no anesthesiologist, so the facility fee is often lower than for open release performed in a surgery center.

Paying cash, with or without insurance

Cash pay is open to anyone, whether or not you have insurance. Many patients choose it when their plan is out of network with us, for example Kaiser members, or when they have no insurance. Call (510) 297-0550 to inquire.

Workers' compensation claims

If you were hurt at work, tell us when you call. Bring your claim number and your adjuster's contact information to the first visit. If you have not opened a claim yet, we can point you in the right direction.

What to bring to your first visit

  • Your HMO referral or authorization, if your plan requires one
  • Any nerve conduction studies (EMG), X-rays or MRI reports you already have
